The Beginning
After the crash in 2008, James Houston was brought in by a group of Middle Eastern businessmen to develop a formula. They were looking for ways to quickly ascertain the strength of a potential investment, without having to spend large amounts of time, capital, and hiring attorneys to do due diligence on businesses they were interested in purchasing. After the crash there were many opportunities to purchase compromised businesses, but these businesses were compromised for a reason and then, more than ever, there was a need to be able to quickly sort out whether or not a business was likely to succeed. James poured through reports, studies, business books and the best sources on strategic processes, and came up with what he refers to as ”The Rules”.
Formula Found
After running models on these rules they proved to be eerily accurate. And James has utilized these rules to successfully purchase many businesses by quickly sorting out opportunities versus businesses doomed to fail. As a business consultant and mentor James usually starts out with reviewing “The Rules” as the basis for finding out the baseline difficulties that need to be addressed in order for a business to improve its chances of surviving then thriving.
